Notes:

The items below represent minimal guidance. You are strongly encouraged to review Iowa's rules

  • All FE exam applicants apply directly to NCEES. No prior approval from the Board is required.
  • All PE examination applications must apply online to the Iowa Board on or before January 15 for the April examinations and on or before July 15 for the October examinations.
  • All FLS and PLS exam applicants must apply online to the Iowa Board for approval to register with NCEES for the exam. Applications will be reviewed at the next regularly scheduled board meeting:
    • The FLS exam is computer-based and administered year-round by NCEES.
    • The national portion of the PLS exam is computer-based and administered year-round by NCEES.
    • The Iowa State Specific Land Surveying Examination is administered by the Iowa Board twice a year (April/October) for initial licensees, and every other month for comity applicants.
  • Reference forms must arrive in sealed envelopes, signed across the flap by the referring individual.  
  • Transcripts must arrive directly from college/university to the Iowa Board.
  • To complete the Ethics Questionnaire you will need refer to Iowa Administrative Rules 193C Chapter 8, and Iowa Code 542B.
